Two diamond thieves were caught in the act at this year’s Singapore International Jewellery Fair.
Local police arrested the pair after they were spotted behaving suspiciously at one of the stands. One was seen talking to an exhibitor while the other appeared to take something from the exhibit.
Two diamonds valued at about S$10,000 ($8,130) belonging to the exhibitor were found on one of the suspects. The detained suspects are both men in their late 30s to early 40s.
In a separate case on the same day, officers arrested a 43-year-old Fillipina woman who was suspected of stealing from attendees’ bags.
The event, held from July 29 to August 1 at Marina Bay Sands Casino in Singapore, attracts jewellery suppliers from all over Asia, as well as a handful of European, American and Australian companies.
