WorldSkills Australia has announced that Farrar is one of the 30 competitors of this year’s Skills Squad selected to undergo intensive training with a dedicated industry expert in mastering their respective skills and tradecraft in preparation for the “tradie Olympics”.
According to Jo Harrop, partnerships and brand coordinator, WorldSkills Australia, “We have recently selected 30 competitors across 21 skills including Charles Farrar for jewellery” after a grueling round of competitions conducted last year.
The official line-up for Team Australia will be announced in April, as some finalists are still competing head-to-head for the top spot in their respective categories such as plumbing and heating and carpentry.
The “skill offs” for the contested categories are expected to be finalised between February and March.
The regional and national elimination rounds were conducted across Perth, Queensland and South Australia with the main event that culminated at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre. Organisers noted the events became more challenging due to COVID-related restrictions and protocols.
In preparation for the 2023 Worldskills National Championships, Harrop pointed out that regional events would commence in February with “grass-root competitions held in 34 regions across Australia.”
“The winners of these local competitions will be the next round of competitors to represent their state at the WorldSkills National Championships 2023 which will be held in Melbourne 2023,” Harrop added.
Worldskills Australia is a social enterprise that highlights skills and trade opportunities for Australia’s youth by showcasing talents in various industries to compete in national and international competitions.
