SIGNATURE PIECE

ALICIA' PENDANT NECKLACE

Winner – Debuting Award
JAA Australasian Jewellery Awards 2019

18-carat white gold pendant and earrings with diamonds and a cabochon sapphire. Either side of the pendant can be removed and attached to the studs to create articulating earrings while the sapphire can still be worn as a pendant on its own. This piece was my attempt to combine the classic art deco style with a modern, modular element.

Favourite gemstone:

Opal, in particular black opal. The flashes of different colours in each stone that makes them all unique and all equally as mesmerising!

Favourite metal:

I love the colour of 18-carat yellow gold along with how enjoyable and satisfying it is to work with.

Favourite tool:

Saw frame, whether I’m piercing out a large piece or putting the final touches on a sharp detail, my saw frame will always be my go to.

Best new tool discovery:

Tyler Bros Mini Clamps, a total game changer when working with smaller pieces.

Best part of job:

Seeing a customer fall in love with the piece you made.

Worst part of job:

Cleaning customer’s jewellery, is the worst part of my job.

Best tip from a jeweller:

The master has failed more times than the apprentice has tried. Always learn from your mistakes and keep trying.

Best tip to a jeweller:

Everyone has a different way of making a piece and there is no single right way. Seeing how another jeweller makes something can open your eyes and help you become a better jeweller.

Biggest health concern on the bench:

Cutting my fingers with my saw. It happens more often than it should.

Love jewellery because:

I love being able to take a concept or design and bring it to life with my own hands.
