Rory Moore, CEO of Arctic Canadian Diamond Company said, “This historic fancy vivid yellow gemstone continues to showcase Canada as a major player on the world stage for diamond mining.

“Canadian diamonds are some of the most sought-after globally because of responsible mining practices and environmental stewardship. This stone is a testament to Ekati’s ability to deliver value now and into the future.”

Ekati is Canada’s first diamond mine and is known for supplying premium rough diamond assortments to the global market for more than 24 years.

As previously reported, Australian company, Burgundy Diamond Mines (BDM) recently announced the discovery of the first fancy colour diamond at the Ellendale project since operations were restarted.

BDM discovered a 1.51-carat fancy colour yellow diamond, octahedral in shape, at the Blina mine which is adjacent to the Ellendale site.

The Ellendale Mine once produced approximately 50 per cent of the world’s yellow diamonds, however, operations were suspended in 2015 when Kimberley Diamond Company entered voluntary administration.

BDM acquired leases at Ellendale in early 2020 with plans to return the mine to ‘fully operational’ by March of 2023.
