On 28 March, Toms River Police officers were dispatched to Venzio Jewelers in the Ocean County Mall after a burglary and theft were reported.
Thieves reportedly entered the store’s rear office by creating a hole in the wall of an empty business next door. They then cut the phone and alarm cables, used a blowtorch to enter a safe, and stole jewellery.
According to local media reports, the suspects covered the sprinkler heads with tape to prevent them from going off and used rags at the bottom of the door to stop smoke from entering the showroom.
“Police said there were no pry marks or evidence of forced entry into the vacant adjacent store rear door,” writes Cherise Lynch of NBC.
“This door leads directly to the exterior of the mall. Police add that the initial investigating officers had observed the door to be closed but unlocked.”
Police have reportedly obtained surveillance video and identified vehicles of interest but are not releasing additional information.
This report comes after thieves in the US reportedly used a sledgehammer to smash through six brick walls belonging to three other businesses in an attempt to rob a Los Angeles jewellery store.
