Fancy colour diamonds: New Australian supplier has big plans

Nina’s Jewellery has launched its first wholesale range in more than 50 years.

Founded in 1965, Nina's Jewellery began in Kununurra, Western Australia, near the Argyle Mine, the source of the world’s finest pink diamonds.

The company is now headquartered in Dunsborough, around three hours from Perth. It has a showroom and workshop that produces fine jewellery using a variety of fancy colour diamonds and pearls.

Shivangi Modi, general manager of product and finance, said expanding the business into wholesale marked a return to the company's origins.

"We will, of course, retain our retail arm, as it is pivotal in helping us understand and meet the needs of retailers just like us - and our customers just wouldn't let us go!" she told Jeweller.

"But wholesale is a return to our CEO Stephen Turner's roots - he specialised in Argyle and colour diamond wholesale jewellery in the 1980s. In a way, this evolution of our business is actually us coming full circle.”

Nina's Coloured Diamond Jewellery range features fancy colour diamonds sourced from around the world, including Australian Argyle pink and blue diamonds.

Other launch ranges include Spectrum and Rosé, featuring fancy colour diamonds, and a new collection of South Sea pearls named Lustre.

"Our strength comes from our close bond with our manufacturing facility and our Australian-based designers and master jewellers,” Modi added.

“We travel to Mumbai every year to provide additional training to our team based over there and hand-select every stone ourselves. Every piece is inspected for quality by our Master Jewellers in Dunsborough.”

She continued, "No two colour diamond pieces are alike, so there's a real challenge and so much excitement to offering such a unique and consistent product to the market."
