$30,000 prize: Remarkable colour gemstone jewellery up for grabs in Sydney

As the anticipation for the International Jewellery Fair continues to build, one exhibitor has planned an eye-catching giveaway.

One lucky visitor will leave the Sydney Fair having won a collection of jewellery valued at $30,000 courtesy of Gerrim International, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year.

Gerri Maunder’s decision to launch Gerrim International three decades ago was a leap of faith, famously beginning with six rings, a borrowed roll of gold chain, and a range of padlocks.

Over the coming years, she steadily expanded the colour gemstone jewellery business by forging relationships with retailers, buying groups, and other suppliers.

She said that the giveaway was an opportunity to highlight her gratitude for the industry surrounding the business in light of the anniversary.

“We’re excited to give something back to the jewellery industry as a way to say thank you for the past 30 years, and we thought the Sydney Fair was a great opportunity to do exactly that,” she told Jeweller.

“What we’ve achieved over the past three decades wouldn’t have been possible without the jewellery industry, and that’s the message we’d really like to get across.

“We’re proud to work so closely with the buying groups, particularly. We think they do a wonderful job of supporting retailers and keeping them engaged and abreast of important changes in the industry.”

In terms of major milestones, Maunder said that welcoming her children — Rachel and Samantha — to the business was a moment that remained firmly in her mind.

She also discussed her passion for trade shows and jewellery fairs, which offer a unique opportunity to expand one’s knowledge and understanding of the market.

“Many of the hard yards are completed in private at these events. I’m one of those people who can’t help themselves with jewellery; whether I’m on holiday or at a fair, I love to wander around and look at everything on offer,” she said.

“It’s always important to watch for what’s grabbing people’s attention. We’re always on the lookout for something new, exciting, and different. It’s important to keep searching for that perfect piece of jewellery or gemstone that will appeal to Aussies.”

Gerrim also recently released its new retail catalogue. The International Jewellery Fair will take place at the International Convention and Exhibition Centre in Darling Harbour from August 17 to 19.
