US athlete Simone Biles topped the podium as the first American gymnastic in Olympic history to win two individual all-around gold medals.
With 10 Olympic medals and 30 World Championship medals, the 27-year-old is in rarified air as a gymnast, and she has marked her accomplishments with a one-of-a-kind necklace.
The GOAT necklace — an acronym for ‘greatest of all time’ — featured 546 diamonds, each drilled and set by hand. It is made from white gold and was created by California’s Janet Heller of Janet Heller Fine Jewellery.
In an interview with NBC, Heller said that Biles contacted her five weeks ago to commission the necklace.
"It's really an incredible piece. She is just such a shining star, and we wanted [the goat] to shine from every angle,” she explained.
“We visited a couple of different iterations of it. We kept working on it until we got to this final iteration, which is one that she loved and approved."
Apart from the GOAT necklace, Heller also made a diamond-set Olympic ring necklace for Biles and teammate Jordan Chiles. Track and field athlete Tara Davis-Woodhall and her Paralympian husband Hunter Woodhall also requested the same necklace.
"We go into these projects not expecting anything. So for her to have been so loud and proud about it — we couldn't believe it. We were just so honoured," Heller added.
"It was an absolute honour and privilege to work with her. To have found her to be so humble, down-to-earth and appreciative really was the cherry on top."
Biles is the fourth American female artistic gymnast to compete at three Olympic Games. She led Team USA to the gold medal in the team event and won the all-around and vault titles.
