The Kruse GWS Artifacts of Hollywood and Music auction on 31 August featured nearly 400 items, including costumes, memorabilia, and jewellery owned by high-profile figures such as Prince, the Beach Boys, and Marilyn Monroe.
Among those was a 14-carat gold ring owned by Presley, featuring 1.3 carats of diamonds and a red spinel. The ring features a detailed ram’s head honouring the astrological sign Capricorn.
The diamond and gold ring had a presale estimate of $USD35,000 ($AUD52,600) to $USD65,000 ($AUD97,700). Brigitte Kruse, founder of Kruse GWS Auctions, said it was a remarkable collection.
“Out of thousands of items submitted and rigorously inspected — many of which did not qualify for our auctions because of our high internal standards — this is one of the finest collections we’ve been able to bring together,” she said.
“The fact that these celebrities were with us for such a short amount of time adds to the value of their keepsakes. For many collectors, this is more than an investment; it’s a way of holding on to someone you admired or cared about.”
The auction featured two other gold rings owned by Presley – one featuring an opal centrestone and the other intricately shaped as a roulette wheel.
Presley (1935-1977) was reportedly fascinated by astrology. He was also well-known for his love of lavish jewellery, including a gold ram’s head necklace featuring emerald cabochon eyes and brilliant-cut white diamonds.
This necklace was sold at auction in 2008 for $USD90,000 ($AUD135,400).
