The Colour Awakened collection is spearheaded by seven ‘Old Masters’, historic diamonds from the Argyle mine - seven round brilliant cut pink and red diamonds, ranging from 0.6 carats to 2.63 carats.
Each diamond was recovered more than a decade ago, with one of the stones discovered in 1987. There are 76 diamonds in total, weighing 39.44 carats. Sinead Kaufman, chief executive of Rio Tinto Minerals, said it was a remarkable collection of diamonds.
“No other mining company in the world has custody of such a kaleidoscope of coloured diamonds,” she said.
“Four years on from the closure of the Argyle mine, our Beyond Rare Tender platform is a testimony to the enduring prestige of the Argyle Pink Diamonds brand, the quality of production from our Diavik mine, and the ongoing demand for highly collectible natural diamonds.”
The 48 lots will be displayed in London, Australia, Singapore, and Belgium, and bids will close on 18 November.
