On 16 November, consumers will have the chance to buy one of 1000 limited-edition watches at participating retailers worldwide.
Participating retailers include Myer in CBD locations in Melbourne, Sydney, and Perth and Wallace Bishop in Brisbane. For New Zealand, watches will be available at Pascoes in Queensgate, Riccarton, and Sylvia Park.
It’s a campaign honouring the company's heritage, which traces back to the Waterbury Clock Company in 1854. The Yankee pocket watch was known as the ‘watch that made the dollar famous’ as it was sold for just $1. More than six million units were sold.
The Timex Waterbury watches feature a 40mm stainless steel case with a white dial highlighted by lacquered Roman numeral hour markers and a 170th Anniversary Edition logo. Chief marketing officer, Shari Fabiani, said it was an opportunity to give back to devoted consumers.
“Our 170th anniversary isn’t merely a celebration of our storied past; it’s a heartfelt reaffirmation of our unwavering commitment to making quality timepieces accessible to everyone,” Fabiani said.
“The $1 Anniversary Watch pays homage to the original Waterbury campaign, which promised ‘correct time for little money.’ In crafting this watch, we wanted to honour the loyal consumers who have trusted and cherished our brand over the years.”
Timex has been distributed in Australia by Designa Accessories for more than 20 years. In August, general manager Ivan Meys spoke with Jeweller about the brand’s past, present, and future in the local market.
