Benjamin Preacher of Massachusetts pleaded guilty to one count of interstate transportation of stolen goods and one count of engaging in unlawful monetary transactions.
Over six years, Preacher worked as a manufacturing supervisor at a Rhode Island company that sells luxury goods. According to a personal social media account, he was employed by Tiffany & Co.
Preacher was captured on company security cameras in March of this year stealing white gold valued at roughly $USD2,200.
It was later revealed that he used his position at the company to steal precious metals, which would later be sold at various businesses. From March 2020 until March 2023, he completed more than $USD1 million in transactions with one metal dealer alone.
Judge Angel Kelley sentenced Preacher to 59 days in prison, followed by two years of supervised release.
In a statement to local Boston media, a legal spokesperson for Preacher called the sentencing a “full, fair, and individualised assessment.”
“Certainly, the sentence has punitive components including incarceration, home confinement, supervised release, community service, and significant financial obligations.” Preacher’s representation said.
“Mr Preacher is taking full responsibility for his conduct and looks forward to continuing to support his family.”
Preacher must also forfeit $USD1,267,093 ($AUD1,983,969) and complete 10 months of home confinement and 200 hours of community service.
