Minister for Economic Growth Tim Pallas has confirmed a $10 million investment in Quantum Brilliance through the Breakthrough Victoria program.
A quantum diamond foundry is a manufacturing facility where lab-created diamonds are tuned and set within integrated circuits to provide computing and sensing electronics.
Founded in 2019 by scientists at the Australian National University, Quantum Brilliance developed a portable quantum computer that can operate at room temperature.
Breakthrough Victoria initially invested $8 million in Quantum Brilliance in 2023. CEO Mark Luo said this project would enhance Australia's reputation abroad.
“This investment underscores our commitment to Victoria’s 20-year legacy of leadership in diamond quantum technology," he said.
"By establishing the world’s leading quantum diamond foundry, QB is not only advancing our mission to deliver diamond quantum solutions but also strengthening Victoria’s reputation as a global hub for quantum innovation.”
According to a statement from the Victorian Government, CSIRO modelling suggests that Australia's quantum technology industry may be worth $6 billion by 2045 and directly employ 19,400 people.
