A cushion brilliant-cut 5.72-carat blue diamond ring returned $USD8.8 million ($AUD13.85 million), comfortably exceeding its presale estimate.
The 10 December auction generated more than $USD49 million ($AUD77.13 million) in sales, with 97 per cent of items finding buyers.
A collection of personal possessions belonging to philanthropist Mica Ertegun generated significant interest, achieving $USD2.6 million ($AUD4.09 million) in sales.
Christie’s international head of jewellery, Rahul Kadakia, described the auction as a "testament to the vibrant market for jewellery of the highest calibre with singular provenance."
Among the other items of interest were a pair of Harry Winston earrings featuring reddish-pink Tanzanian spinels, which returned $USD2.2 million ($AUD3.46 million).
An interchangeable Ruban Mysterieux necklace from Van Cleef & Arpels was sold for $USD1.4 million ($AUD2.2 million), smashing its presale estimate.
• The passion for fancy colour diamonds will again be on show at an upcoming Sotheby's sale in Hong Kong.
A blue diamond ring - featuring a 9.01-carat fancy-blue stone - is expected to return $USD6.4 million ($AUD10.07 million) at the 17 December sale.
