Police were called to Class A Jewellers in Walkerville around 2:30 a.m. on Thursday after an alarm was activated. A large amount of broken glass was found at the scene; however, despite great effort, the suspects had failed to enter the store.
CCTV footage revealed three masked men smashing through the front foyer doors before leaving empty-handed when the bulletproof door prevented entry to the store.
Owner Brad Mucklow said the store recently completed a renovation, including installing 16mm thick bulletproof glass.
“Everything is packed away at night in our vault, so the effort and the damage that they do for no reward is just frustrating. They’ve attempted to get in through our main glass door, and we spent a lot of money on that, which weighs 400kg,” Mucklow told local media.
“It’s a lot of money to spend, but it’s certainly come to fruition when something like this happens.”
He added: “Nothing in the store has been affected, everything is still secure, and we’ll just trade as normal.”
Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
