Jacques joined the GIA’s board of governors in 1996 and was chair of the board from 2008 until 2014. After a six-month stint as interim CEO, she was appointed president and CEO in January 2014.
The GIA has confirmed Jacques will retire at the end of this year. Lisa Locklear, chair of the board of governors, praised the departing leader for her composure under pressure.
“Under her expert, compassionate and visionary leadership, GIA has achieved new heights of success in often challenging times,” Locklear said.
“Susan’s dedicated service as president and CEO leaves GIA well positioned to continue to advance its important mission of ensuring the public trust in gems and jewellery.”
In a statement, Jacques expressed optimism about the organisation's future direction. The search for the next leader of the GIA has begun, and a dedicated committee will evaluate internal and external candidates.
