Responsible Jewellery Council executive director resigns

The Responsible Jewellery Council’s executive director, Melanie Grant, has resigned after just two years with the international trade association.

Grant was appointed executive director in January 2023. The RJC had been without a leader for nearly one year due to an internal crisis involving the Russian conflict with Ukraine.

Industry media sources reported that vice chairman John Hall will serve as interim executive director until the RJC replaces Grant. He previously held this position when former head Iris Van der Veken resigned in early 2022.

It's also been reported that Grant will assist Hall as a consultant while searching for a successor.

“While it has been an honour and a privilege to lead the RJC, I’m stepping down from executive director into a part-time consulting role to enjoy some more personal time and pursue other projects,” Grant told National Jeweler.

“I’ve learned a lot, but I’ve promised myself a 2025 with a bit less on my plate.”

Since the executive director position was created in 2015, Grant has held it for the shortest time, excluding Hall’s tenure as interim executive director.
