A 69-year-old woman was arrested in 2020 and is accused of stealing jewellery while working for Princess Firyal of Jordan. The woman is alleged to have taken diamond rings, bracelets, watches, and earrings from the 80-year-old princess' home in Belgravia.
According to various media reports, the luxury items were handed to a relative who sold them at an auction house in Kent. The accused appeared in London’s Westminster Magistrates Court charged with ‘theft by employee’.
“Princess Firyal is the former wife of Prince Muhammad bin Talal, second son of the late King Talal of Jordan,” writes Mike Sullivan for The Sun.
“She is a renowned humanitarian and philanthropist and is the daughter of Farid Mahmoud Irshaid, a political leader who served in the government and as a parliamentarian in the Senate in Jordan.
“Her mother, Farida, was Chair of the Red Crescent Society in the West Bank. After studying in America, Princess Firyal married Prince Muhammad bin Talal in 1964.”
The defendant was bailed to appear at the same court on 14 April because a Spanish interpreter was not available.
