The fancy vivid yellow diamond, known as the New Sun, is 100-carats and is described as having a rich honey golden colour. It was created from a 236-carat rough discovered in Yakutia in 2020.
“New Sun is one of the most significant events in the gemstone industry in recent years, highlighting Russia’s high status in the global diamond industry,” the company said.
A statement reveals that a team of 15 master cutters transformed the diamond from rough to polished using a 3D model.
Spectral analysis and virtual projects were used to assess all possible shapes, determining which cut would highlight the diamond’s colour while preserving as much of its weight as possible.
Rio Tinto recently announced the discovery of a massive 158-carat fancy colour yellow diamond at the Diavik Mine in Canada.
• In other news, a fancy colour pink diamond ring was the star of the show at the latest Christie’s auction in New York, returning $USD579,600 ($AUD947,000)
