Bead and charm suppliers in Australia have released commemorative pieces to cash in on Prince William and Kate Middleton’s British royal wedding, following hot on the heels of a trend for sapphire engagement ring designs inspired by the original.
Customised jewellery specialist Chamilia has added a limited edition ‘Royal Engagement’ bead to its collection. The two-sided bead features two large oval sapphire Swarovski crystals surrounded by 16 smaller clear Swarovski crystals on each side.
Chamilia national marketing manager Jenelle Trisic said Chamilia capitalised on the surge in sapphire blue’s popularity.
“The sapphire blue colour has always been a strong selling colour but the excitement of the royal wedding has helped elevate its popularity,” she said.
Trisic explained that the limited edition bead would be targeted at Chamilia’s core demographic that “love fashion, appreciate handcrafted workmanship and have a passion for the royal family”.
She expected the charm to sell out quickly.
Known best for its charms, Pandora has launched a limited edition ‘Royal Wedding’ charm. The sterling silver heart-shaped charm has a blue spinel at its centre, which is intended to symbolise the sapphires in Middleton’s engagement ring.
The charm has William and Middleton’s initials engraved on its back. It will be available from April to October.
Pandora head of marketing and communications Jeff Burnes said, “Commemorating unforgettable moments is part of Pandora’s DNA and our customers definitely see the royal wedding as something worth commemorating.”
He said the charm had garnered the most interest from women aged 25 and over.
