The annual Jewellery Manufacturers Federation awards took place in New Zealand on Saturday August 6.
Held at the Mecca Stonehouse restaurant in Auckland, this year the New Zealand Jewellery Manufacturers Federation (JMF) handed out five awards to young students..
“The awards were fantastic, there was a good crowd of jewellers, sponsors and award recipients,” JMF president Greg Jones said.
This year’s recipients include Scott Parker from Tauranga - an apprentice at Bethlehem Jewellers, Wayne Hooper from Peter Minturn Goldsmith School, Amelia Pascoe from Whitireia Community College, Lisa Higgins from Hungry Arts and Crafts School and Krystle Staiger from Otago Polytechnic.
Jones was especially grateful to the kind sponsors that funded the evening, including Precious Gem Imports, Morris & Watson, Peter Minturn Goldsmith’s School and Regal Casting.
“The sponsorship proved vital, and all of the funding went direct to the recipients,” Jones said.
The Mecca Stonehouse restaurant, a 150-year old building provided the backdrop for the evening, where everyone from award recipients to jewellers indulged in a dinner celebration.
According to the JMF’s mission statement it serves to promote trust and understanding within the profession of manufacturing jewellers. Members must adhere to a standard of conduct that will hold manufacturing jewellers above question in all matters.
The Excellence Awards night gives recognition to young achievers in the New Zealand jewellery industry and rewards them with a Certificate of Excellence and a year’s membership with the JMF.
