Jeweller and pen designer, Glen Curtis, will fly to New York to judge Rio Tinto’s Global Jewellery Design Competition.
In November this year, the Victorian jewellery manufacturer will join industry heavyweights and high-flyers from the world of film and fashion for Rio Tinto’s inaugural design competition.
Glen Curtis, managing director of Curtis Australia, which makes and exports fine jewellery and luxury pens, said he is honoured to be selected as a judge, which complements the skills of Australian jewellers as well as himself personally.
As previously reported in Jeweller, Rio Tinto Diamonds design competition is open to entrants from the US, Canada, Hong Kong, China, India and Australia. Winners in this year’s awards will see their pieces festoon celebrities at the 2012 Academy Awards, where they’ll appear in a dedicated showcase.
The contest has four categories; Champagne Diamonds, Canadian Diamonds, Sustainable Jewellery and Silvermist Diamonds – Rio Tinto’s own line of silver-grey diamonds. Curtis has worked with the distinctive diamonds previously, fashioning his ‘Morning Mist’ necklet and matching fountain pen with Rio Tinto’s gems.
The competition ends October 26, 2011 while the judging takes place on November 2 in New York, where eight designs will be selected.
