The Jewellers Association of Australia’s prestigious biennial awards ceremony highlights the country’s most impressive jewellery designs and designers and the winners will be announced at a gala evening with the who’s-who of the jewellery industry in attendance.
The design competition is open to all Australian jewellers including apprentices and students. The awards celebrate the excellence in design and craftsmanship, and provide industry members across Australia with an arena to showcase their creativity.
The JAA Awards, which first began in 1968, honour jewellers who create pieces with the highest levels of artistry, creativity and excellence in quality and style. To be recognised with an award, jewellers must express their individuality and craft through the design and manufacture of jewellery pieces.
The competition is segmented into ten categories and all nominated pieces will be displayed at this year’s Sydney International Jewellery Fair.
All entrants will receive a customised Certificate of Entry from the JAA and a professional, high-resolution image of their piece, for use in their marketing promotion.
Category winners, meanwhile, receive an awards trophy and certificate from the JAA as well as images and videos of their winning piece.
The JAA will aim to promote winners across the categories to all trade media and winners will receive customised press releases for use with their local media.
The Jeweller of the Year will be invited to the 2013 Hong Kong International Jewellery Fair and will be provided with flights and three nights accommodation. In addition, the winner will receive a scholarship with the Gemmological Association of Australia (GAA) to complete the Diploma of Gemmology first year course.
Apprentice / Student of the Year Winner will receive $1,000 in prize money.
Submissions for the competition are open from June 4-15, with judging on June 25 and finalists notified on July 9.

In this mass-produced world the artistry of jewellery is still valued and, not only do jewellers remain prominent today, their creativity and skills are admired more than ever before.
It's astonishing to think that a local jeweller can still design and hand-make a unique piece that can be admired and cherished for generations to come.
The 2012 JAA Australasian Jewellery Awards aims to celebrate our most talented jewellers. Held every two years, the competition brings together Australia's best design talent.
As the name suggests, this year the competition has crossed the Tasman to include New Zealand entrants for the first time.
With 42 finalists chosen from 112 entries, the awards honour jewellers who create pieces with the highest levels of artistry, creativity and excellence in quality and style.
