“Trollies” worldwide are eyeing Australia after the launch of the local leg of Trollbeads world tour collection in Melbourne and Sydney last week.
A select group of industry representatives and Trollbeads fans, or “Trollies” celebrated the launch with the world premiere of the brand’s launch video and a special meet and greet with Trollbeads designer, Anders Martin Bruun.
Bruun designed three of the four Australian beads in the collection, Aboriginal Rock Art, Kangaroo and Joey and Sydney Harbour, with the fourth bead in the collection, Great Barrier Reef, being designed by Trollbeads managing director Lise Aagaard.
Bruun’s three creations for the collection are silver beads, while Aargaard’s contribution is a glass bead.
The collection was officially released to selected jewellers and gift stores across Australia on Friday, March 2. The collection is exclusive to Australian stores, which encourages fans outside the country to travel to Australia if they want to add the new beads to their collection.
Bruun said choosing a kangaroo as one of the images to represent Australia was an obvious start after he first visited the country in 2005.
“My inlaws invited us here travelling around Australia for a month for their 25th anniversary in 2005,” Bruun said. “I had the idea for the kangaroo then.”
He said it was during that trip that he learned a little of aboriginal art and about Dreamtime, which inspired another of his designs in the collection.
“I heard about Dreamtime and I had seen some of the Aboriginal art, I have visited some places and looked at the cave paintings and I thought I needed to incorporate some of those paintings,” Bruun said. “I think it changes from tribe to tribe, but the rainbow serpent that features on the bead, the story I heard about it was about the rainbow serpent breaking the surface of the earth, forming the landscape and allowing the people and creatures of the earth to come out. I thought this is a very good story, I would like to do something with that.”
Along with Australia, other countries such as Austria, Japan, USA, Switzerland, UK, South Africa, Netherlands, Italy, Germany and Denmark have also so far featured on the tour, with Hong Kong being launched this month.
