The three-day Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair opens in just over two weeks at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre, and will host more than 1,700 exhibitors. It’s a record number for the June fair, one of two UBM Asia operates in Hong Kong annually. Exhibitors from 36 countries will have product on display.
“This growth confirms the industry’s recognition of the June Fair as an effective way to promote products and meet target buyers,” UBM Asia’s director jewellery fairs, Celine Lau said.
Lau credited Hong Kong’s free-trade policy as a key factor in the fair’s increasing popularity.
“Hong Kong’s proximity to the booming economies of mainland China, India and the rest of Asia has made the city the preferred launch pad for companies looking to break into these markets,” she said.
Last year, Hong Kong was the fifth largest exporter of precious jewellery globally, and trade fairs have been a key platform for cementing supply deals.
Lau also said the June fair was well prepared to cater for the growing interest in diamond jewellery. “Demand for diamond jewellery has increased rapidly, despite tough conditions in traditional diamond consuming markets in Europe and the US,” she said.
“Emerging economies such as China and India play a big part in this growth. Diamond traders from around the world come to our fairs to explore business opportunities. This year, we are proud to announce that the Diamond Pavilion is the biggest ever in the fair’s history,” Lau added.
Hong Kong has continued to cement its position as one of the leading cities for international jewellery fairs. Exhibitors and retailers have two major fair options to choose from in Hong Kong, with UBM Asia and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) both operating popular trade shows. HKTDC organises both a jewellery fair and a clock and watch fair annually, while UBM runs its Jewellery & Gem Fair twice a year, along with its Asia’s Fashion Jewellery & Accessories Fair.
