The World Diamond Council (WDC) has launched iPhone and iPad
applications that provide jewellers mobile access to information
pertaining to the diamond industry.
Unlike the Council’s DiamondFacts website, which is aimed at consumers, the new WEDC app targets members as well as diamond and jewellery professionals, providing them with news, background information, resource documents, photos and videos of WDC activities.
The applications can be downloaded free from the Apple Store.
The DiamondFacts app targets jewellery consumers and members of the jewellery retail trade, providing information about the critical economic and social role played by the diamond industry in the mining and producing countries, and also information about the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme and the diamond business itself.
The Council’s goal in creating the apps was to enable its members and people interested in the diamond industry to obtain immediate and full access to accurate information.
"Public awareness is a key element of our mission to engender an ethical trade in diamonds, and with the new technology we hope to enhance that," explained president of the WDC, Eli Izhakoff.
Retailers with iPhones and iPads can locate and download the applications by searching "World Diamond Council" and "DiamondFacts" on the iTunes Store.
Consumer iPad App Also for consumers, leading international industry publication Rapaport Magazine has launched its iPad app, also available for free download.
Along with the magazine’s main editorial features, the app provides exclusive content not available in the print publication, covering topics that the publication boasts matter most to jewelry consumers – the world of diamonds, gemstones and jewelry.
Rapaport's app features articles on subjects like jewellery auctions, new designers and general information about diamonds.
