Established in 2005, the national jewellery design competition celebrates excellence in Australian diamond jewellery and is open to all designers and jewellers working within an Australian retail jewellery company, with one special requirement - all entries must feature natural diamonds.
Sponsored by the Diamond Guild Australia, the guild’s executive officer Melissa James told Jeweller, “We are anticipating a record number of entries in a broader range of categories.
“We will be expanding from five to seven categories with a supreme winner to be selected from the winners of each category.”
A category has been created to encourage new talent in the Australian industry as well as a category promoting the everyday wearability of diamonds. These two categories are in addition to the traditional categories, James said.
“This year’s awards will be focusing on the artistry of jewellery and jewellery as a design discipline.”
James said a judging panel would be specially chosen for the event.
“We will be inviting a jewellery expert representing the guild as well as high profile experts from the broader world of design, in addition to experts from fashion and our media partner.
“In 2013, the prestige and value of the award will be bigger and better than ever for the winners. In addition to the tickets to attend the gala event, certificate and trophy, we will be creating fantastic opportunities to promote the winners and their businesses through advertising, PR and exhibitions,” James said.
Registrations of interest will be accepted until the end of May and final dates for entries will close at the end of July.
The awards are designed to allow entrants to create unique pieces that push the boundaries of creativity. Unlike any other Australian competition, only pieces featuring natural diamonds will be accepted.
Eligible Australian jewellers or designers can register their interest in participating in the 2013 competition by visiting Diamond Guild’s
