The Diploma in Diamond Technology reportedly provides a thorough insight into diamonds and covers topics including mining, history of diamond cutting and cuts as well as the stone’s role in the marketplace. It offers practical and theoretical components.
According to the GAA, the course builds on the Diploma of Gemmology, giving a more in-depth understanding of diamonds, past and present simulants and synthetics, treatments and diamond grading.
The one-year, part-time diploma is available in all states and will be held at different times throughout the year. The first course will begin in Victoria on 2 May, followed by NSW on 7 May. It is reportedly suitable for people working in retail, wholesale or mining sectors.
Registration is also open for the Practical Diamond Grading certificate.
The 10-module course is designed to teach people how to grade diamonds for colour, clarity and cut.
It covers the detection and identification of synthetic diamonds and diamond treatments, fracture-filled diamonds, laser-drilled diamonds and other treatments.
Described as the GAA’s “most popular course”, it is specifically designed for jewellers, retailers, jewellery consultants, gemmologists and valuers.
The courses will be held in NSW, South Australia, Victoria and Queensland at various times during of the year. The first course will take place in NSW from 6 May to 10 May, followed by South Australia from 27 May to 31 May.
