Flash your ice (cream)

From the weird to the wonderful, bulletin board is filled with snippets about jewellery from around the world.

Flash your ice (cream)

Remember how much of an extra treat it was to have sprinkles on your ice cream as a child? Imagine how much more of a treat it would be to have a cone sprinkled with diamonds!

A US-based ice cream company has done just that, creating a cone with diamonds in place of the hundreds and thousands and with white gold in place of ice cream: "It has over 630 diamonds on it with an approximate weight (TDW) of 150 carats," said Kim Piper of Bruster's Real Ice Cream. "If you pick it up, it weighs about 3 pounds (1.3 kilograms)."

Pretty to the eye, sure, but what about the cherry on top? Well, there's that too, only there are enamelled gold cherries placed in the unpolished, 18-carat gold waffle cone already dotted with 87 square-cut diamonds and a dazzling 5.63-carat, yellow diamond.

Plans are in place to sell the art, donating the money to charity.

Million dollar jewellery heist

Two men have stolen millions of pounds in diamonds and jewellery from one of the world's most exclusive jewellers.

Posing as customers, and arriving at the store in a Bentley, the two bandits robbed Graff Diamonds in West London.

Police refused to put a value on the haul estimated to be about £10 million and including a 155-carat necklace.

Platinum purse

How should one keep precious belongings stored safely during a night on the town? How about placing them in a $US1.63 million platinum and diamond clutch?

Launched at a Tokyo fashion show on June 28, Japanese jewellery chain Ginza Tanaka created the accessory set with 2,182 diamonds, 208 carats TDW, and fashioned from pure platinum.

Step back in time

Many would be happy to forget the excess and crassness of 1980s fashion; however, a Scottish jeweller is reviving the era in a line of retro jewellery.

Inspired by the return of US television drama Dallas, Alistir Tait has brought in vintage stock to celebrate the 1980s revival.

Donald Duck diamanté earrings, leopard-print brooches, and pieces by Christian Dior and Yves Saint Laurent are all part of the retro offering, with the stock coming mostly from Tait's previous store, Fabulous Fakes.

Actress' cat eats diamond

Veteran British actress Dora Bryan has accused her cherished cat of eating a £9,000 ($A21,028) diamond from her ring.

The 84-year-old star alleges that "Kitty Puss" ate the gem after working it free from its setting, but Bryan's insurance company is refusing to payout on her claim because there is no solid proof the cat ate it.

The nose knows

Jewellery retailers wanting to create an all-round shopping experience might want to add an aroma to their stores.

Capable of replicating smells such as freshly-baked bread, apple pie and genuine leather, the Ecomist Aroma Marketing System is designed to create memorable shopping experiences.

Exercise in style

A US footwear company has developed a jewel-encrusted shoelace clip.

Designed to lace through one's shoelaces, Kickbar glistens with diamonds, rubies, sapphires and emeralds - pavé or invisible-set in 14-carat white gold - and is priced at a cool $US7,500 ($A8,468).

Easy thievery

A woman was robbed at gunpoint of jewels worth $20,000 after advertising her jewellery for sale in a newspaper.

The incident occurred in July when three men visited the woman at her home in Mosman Park, Western Australia, claiming to be interested in buying the goods.

An hour later, they returned one of them brandishing a pistol while the other grabbed the jewellery.

Royal jewels on loan

Camilla Parker Bowles has celebrated her 60th birthday in class, adorning herself with a diamond necklace loaned from the Queen.

Part of the royal collection, the necklace was a coronation present to the late Queen mother.

Husband Prince Charles chose a more unconventional birthday gift for his wife, bestowing her with a ram and a ewe.

The Dutchess of Cornwall marked the July milestone with over 150 guests. Prince William's love interest Kate Middleton was there - hinting that she and Will had reunited.

Bulletin Board is collated from a variety of sources including other magazines, internet sites, email newsletters and so on.
