Tayron Scagnetti, 22, competed against other young jewellers from 17 different countries to win silver. Each competitor was given the task of creating an identical pendant over the four days of competition.
Unluckily, Scagnetti was penalised for a slight scratch on the piece after a mishap when a drill-powered emery disk broke as he was using it on day three.
The Australian competitor is no stranger to performing under pressure. To qualify to represent his country internationally, Scagnetti first had to win a gold medal at Worldskills Australia last year. He also was awarded WA TAFE’s Apprentice of the Year in 2012.
The young Australian works in the family business in Perth, Scagnetti’s Fine Jewellers, with proud parents, Adriano, who accompanied the younger Scagnetti to Europe, and mum Rita, who stayed at home to run the business.
