As official jewellery sponsor for the pageant, Hearts On Fire was called upon to design the crown for 2013 successor, 19-year-old Olivia Wells. It was presented to Wells at the event held on Friday 12 July in Melbourne.
Created by the jewellery brand’s director of design, Ilaria Lanzoni, the crown took about three months to complete and comprises 631 perfectly cut diamonds. It is 17 carats in total and has a retail value of $150,000.
In addition to the crown, the company, marketed as The World’s Most Perfectly Cut Diamond, gave Wells an “Illa Comet” diamond pendant. Both the crown and pendant feature diamond stars, said to be a tribute to Australia’s Southern Cross.
As reported by Jeweller last year, the sponsorship deal was brokered through Jewels Australia Marketing (JAM) and is currently contracted from 2013 to 2015. The crown will be passed to each new Miss Universe Australia for the three years of the contract. The pageant will retain the item after that time.
Wells, a medical student from Black Rock in Victoria, will represent Australia at Donald Trump’s Miss Universe final in Moscow later this year.
Hearts On Fire is sold in 650 retailers across 34 countries and has more than 30 Australian stockists.
