Called the Kagi Jewel Carousel, the Auckland-based business, headed by designer Kat Gee, will be displaying a prototype of the unique jewellery display unit at the Kagi stand. Fair visitors will be able to experience the consumer-friendly item first-hand.
Gee said she had been working on the idea of a mix ‘n’ match display cabinet for a couple of years. The concept is modeled off a “lazy susan” design.
She added the carousel had been designed as a tactile experience for consumers, but with anti-theft in mind.
”We will be unveiling the first prototype at the fair for retailers to experience the Jewel Carousel difference,” Gee told Jeweller.
“Now that it's finally through the IP protection stages, we are comfortable taking it to market,” she said.
Basically, the carousel is divided into three sections – a spinning wheel that allows consumers to mix and match necklaces with pendants; a display cabinet beneath the carousel that has a selection of combinations and accessories; and product drawers that are fully stocked with the Kagi items on display.
The unit measures just more than one metre long by about 60cm wide, which Gee said was just the right size to display the product beautifully but small enough to fit in most stores. The versatile unit sits on castors, making it fully portable.
“From our initial in-store testing, Kagi sales doubled!” Gee boasted, adding that the first roll-out of the cabinets would be offered to a “hand-selected” group of retail partners in early September.
“We will then be offering this for our other top retailers for installation in early October. As this is such a unique and stunning offering, retailers will be invited to go through an application process to be selected as a Jewel Carousel stockist,” she said.
