Both Australian Jewellers Supplies (AJS) and House of Jewellery (HOJ) will now trade under the business name Australian Jewellers Supplies, effective from Tuesday 1 April 2014.
Current HOJ managing director Selwyn Brandt confirmed the arrangement, adding that the company’s head office would be located in Brisbane, with additional branches in all capital cities. The current AJS and HOJ showrooms in Sydney will be combined into one outlet.
Acknowledging the challenges faced by the jewellery industry both globally and in Australia, both parties believed the decision to merge was a “compelling and positive transaction for all concerned”.
“Each business has different specialties and so the combined product offering will result in an expanded range. Both AJS and HOJ have many exclusive agencies so retailers will have greater choice from one large supplier,” Brandt said.
“In addition, increased buying power will filter through to retailers in the form of lower prices.”
Brandt also explained that HOJ branding would still be used for certain products.
Key staff members from AJS and HOJ will remain in their positions; Ian Martin will continue in his role as general manager, and Brandt will begin a new role as director of business development. Brandt is also a shareholder of the new business.
AJS’ heritage can be traced to 1857, while HOJ was established in 1977. Both provide a range of products including jewellery tools, equipment, findings and packaging and display material.
