The company has raised more than $2.5 million for the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) since 2005, with a large portion of donations coming from sales of its Pink Ribbon collection that includes a range of sterling silver pendants and charms.
The newest addition to the brand’s fundraising efforts is a bracelet made from pink, braided leather and a sterling silver charm that spells out the word “hope” in cubic zirconia.
The charm has been designed to represent an ongoing commitment to raising awareness and research funds for the prevention and cure of breast cancer. Pink is also the NBCF campaign’s signature colour.
As with other pieces in the Pink Ribbon line, 30 per cent of all sales on the new collection – which retails for $199 – will be donated to the foundation.
“Our commitment to women remains steadfast,” Pandora vice president of marketing Glenda Wolman said. “Breast cancer is a disease that impacts so many women and their families. With 30 per cent of the proceeds of Pandora Pink Ribbon jewellery donated to research funding, we are closer to finding a cure.”
The NBCF has previously recognised Pandora for its ongoing support, awarding the jewellery brand the 2011 Patron’s Award for Corporate Commitment to the Cause as well as a Pink Circle Patron’s Award in 2012.
The bracelet and charm set will also be released in New Zealand, contributing to the more than $750,000 in donations the company has raised for the New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation (NZBCF) since 2007.
While most pieces within the Pink Ribbon range are available for purchase throughout the year, the newest addition will only be on offer while stocks last. The set will go on sale tomorrow, Wednesday 1 October, which is the start of breast cancer awareness month.
The wider jewellery industry has also been involved in supporting breast cancer charities, with similar initiatives having been undertaken by brands such as Thomas Sabo and Guess Watches, and by buying group Showcase Jewellers.
The NBCF and NZBCF were established in 1994. Both foundations raise money for research into the prevention and cure of breast cancer as well as promote awareness and education.
