Cannes 2015 film festival red carpet shines bright, Cartier ruby sets Sotheby’s record, Modern-looking 40,000-year-old bracelet found

The annual Cannes film festival red carpet never fails to attract some of the biggest celebrities – and diamonds – in show business. This year, Chopard and Bulgari jewellery stole the show, with Lupita Nyong’o and Naomi Watts flaunting statement pieces.

A Cartier 25.29-carat ruby ring, dubbed Sunrise Ruby, was set to sell for somewhere between $12 million and $18 million; however the Burmese ruby far exceeded those expectations and broke an auction record in the process. See below to find out the staggering price.

Scientists believe that a bracelet found in Serbia dates back 40,000 years, which would make it the oldest piece of jewellery ever discovered. The relic also indicates the maker may have used a high-rotation drill – displaying a level of skill more advanced than previously thought possible.
