The assault occurred around 4pm on Friday 26 June at KL Jewellers in Fortitude Valley, Brisbane.
A police report stated that a man – later identified by a court spokesperson as 27-year-old Peter Do – entered the jewellery store and asked to be shown a ring.
When the unnamed 62-year-old jewellery retailer went to remove the requested item from the display, Do allegedly punched and then stabbed him with an unknown weapon before fleeing the store on foot.
Brisbane police caught the suspect who was subsequently charged with attempted murder, entering premises with intent and armed robbery with violence. Police confirmed to Jeweller that no items were taken from the store.
The staff member was treated at the scene before being transported to the Royal Brisbane Hospital.
Do faced the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday 29 June but did not apply for bail. The court spokesperson said he had been remanded in custody and was due to return to court on 3 August 2015.
