The buying group’s new resource will include templates, posts and content that have been created specifically for jewellery retailers to use across various social media platforms.
“Most jewellers are time poor, so having a library of readily available content will enable them to continually update their social media [accounts] with interesting posts, specially designed for retail jewellers,” Nationwide managing director Colin Pocklington explained.
Pocklington said the templates and content in the library were “quite comprehensive” and would help members promote a variety of business initiatives, including in-store VIP events, sales, workshop services, custom-made jewellery and Nationwide Antwerp buying trips.
The social media tool, which will be updated on an ongoing basis, was created by US-based business Crystal Media – a provider of social media marketing training and support to independent retailers.

Pocklington said the business’ founder, Crystal Vilkaitis, was so popular as a keynote speaker at Nationwide’s 2015 national conference that she was asked to take part in this year’s event.
During the upcoming conference, Vilkaitis will conduct a workshop on how to use the social media library and present a session on Facebook marketing. She will also offer individual consultations to members seeking business-specific social media marketing advice.
Pocklington noted that a workshop on how to take quality jewellery photos for social media was also included in the conference program.
Nationwide’s 2016 national conference will be held from 18 to 20 March at the QT Gold Coast hotel in Queensland.
Tolkowsky winners
In other Nationwide news, two of the buying group’s members have been named winners of a new window display competition hosted by diamond supplier Tolkowsky.
The competition – open to all Tolkowsky retail stockists in Australia and New Zealand – invited retailers to submit photos of their displays to Antwerp-based Jean Paul Tolkowsky, a seventh generation diamantaire and descendent of the Tolkowsky family.
Eight Australian and three New Zealand retailers entered the contest, with The Gem Cave in Alice Springs and Petersen’s Jewellers in Upper Riccarton, Christchurch emerging as the respective winners of each country.
Commenting on the benefits of participation, Pocklington said it encouraged members “spruce up” their displays in preparation for the critical Christmas period.
Winners were also awarded $500 travel vouchers.
Nationwide secured the exclusive distribution rights for Tolkowsky-branded diamond jewellery in Australia and New Zealand in June 2010. Tolkowsky currently has 35 stockists in Australia and eight in New Zealand.
