Counterfeit jewellery seized in Sydney

Police have raided a Sydney retailer, seizing thousands of dollars worth of counterfeit jewellery as part of a crackdown on counterfeiters.
The police crackdown took place on Friday, 19 March at a retail business inside a Darling Harbour shopping centre.

More than 500 counterfeit items, including Chanel, Dior, Gucci and Louis Vuitton jewellery, were seized during the raid.

The counterfeit jewellery was valued at approximately $100,000.

The searches followed an investigation by NSW police, acting on information received from Trademark Information Services.

Police are yet to lay any charges as investigations continue, although it’s expected a number of people will face charges in the future.

In a statement released on Friday, police superintendent Mick Fuller said the operation sent a strong warning to anyone trading in counterfeit goods.

“This is not the first operation of this type that we’ve conducted and it won’t be the last,” Supt Fuller said.

“Police continue to working closely with industry groups and the community to detect and stamp out the trade of counterfeit goods."

“I’d encourage anyone with information on the manufacture and/or distribution of fake items to contact police via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000,” he said.

The raid appears to be part of a police crackdown on counterfeiters.

It was one of a series of police searches conducted on Friday.

In separate raids, counterfeit cosmetics and clothing were also seized.

Last month, a counterfeit Tiffany & Co shipment was seized by police in Perth.
