Entries for the JAA Australian Jewellery Awards could potentially double, with the JAA reporting 230 expressions of interest for this year. Last year’s awards attracted around 100 entries.
In further positive news the JAA announced the signing of seven new sponsors.
Peter W Beck, JAA Jewellery Insurance Brokers, Chemgold, LST3 Design, Showcase Jewellers, Leading Edge Group and Brinks Australia will all be sponsoring this year’s awards.
They join previously announced major sponsor Pandora and media partner Marie Claire.
JAA CEO Ian Hadassin said while the good news was encouraging, there was still much work to be done.
“It’s fantastic that we’ve had the support from the sponsors so far,” he said, adding: “But we’re still short five sponsors, without them we may be forced to cut back on the budget for the awards night.”
Hadassin said negotiations were ongoing with a number of potential sponsors.
Entries for the 2010 Awards close 2 July and finalists will be announced 7 July, with the award winners being announced at a Gala Ball on 30 August.
Meanwhile, Hadassin revealed the JAA’s new constitution would be released later this year.
The JAA had earlier published a draft version of the constitution in order to give all JAA members the opportunity to comment.
After receiving little feedback, Hadassin said: “I can only assume this means members are happy with the constitution.”
An exact launch date will be confirmed following the JAA’s next board meeting, scheduled for 17 May.
