Hope Diamond
History repeats in jewellery collection
Posted April 20, 2010 |
A collection of historic jewellery replicas will soon be released as fashion statements.
A new jewellery line based on famous pieces throughout history has been commissioned, and is set for release later this year.
The collection will feature replicas of historical pieces on display at the US National Museum of Natural History, including the world-famous Hope Diamond (pictured).
The line was commissioned by the US-based Smithsonian Institution and will be designed and manufactured by multimedia retailer QVC.
Smithsonian representative Carol LeBlanc said the collection would be high-quality, but would also have educational value.
“Together, we will create jewelry that is not only fashionable, but also serves to educate the public about the Smithsonian and the jewelry, gems and minerals found in its collections,” she said.
Earrings, rings, bracelets, pins and brooches will all be included in the collection.
A full list of the pieces to be replicated has not yet been released, although possibilities include the Marie Antoinette Earrings, the Hooker Emerald Brooch and the Spanish Inquisition Necklace.
The collection is scheduled to launch in spring 2010.
