Diamond Guild Awards moved to August, Opal Design Awards entries open

Diamond Guild Australia (DGA) has announced its Diamond Jewellery Design Awards will now take place in August.

The biennial awards focus on designs that incorporate natural diamonds. As previously reported by Jeweller, they were originally scheduled for May.

“The decision to reschedule our awards has been taken after learning that there will not be other jewellery industry design awards held in 2018”.
Melissa James, DGA executive officer

“The DGA has announced that it has revised the timeframe for the 2018 Diamond Guild Australia jewellery awards, and will now be conducting its prestigious competition in the second half of 2018,” DGA executive officer Melissa James said in a media statement.

“The decision to reschedule our awards has been taken after learning that there will not be other jewellery industry design awards held in 2018,” James continued. “This has allowed us to revise the timeframe for our awards to give all participants more time to prepare their entries. We believe this will ensure the highest standard of design and number of entrants.”

The Diamond Guild Awards have been held biennially since 2005, and the upcoming event will be the 8th competition conducted by the industry association. Additional information, including how to submit expressions of interest can be found here.

In other local awards news, the Queensland Boulder Opal Association has announced entries for its annual opal jewellery design awards have opened.

According to the association, the Queen of Gems International Boulder Opal Jewellery Design Awards are one of very few local jewellery competitions offering cash prizes for the winning entries. The three categories – professional jeweller, emerging jeweller and object design – encourage entrants to “showcase the modern opal jewel through limitless creative energies”.

Additional information on the awards can be found here.
