Two men attacked the western suburb store, threatening staff and customers with a firearm and hammer at the Sunshine Marketplace shopping centre on Wednesday 13 June.
The assailants entered the store about 5:00pm and smashed a number of display cases, before running off with the stolen jewellery and escaping on a black Honda motorcycle.
Brimbank Embona Taskforce detectives attended the scene and investigations are ongoing. No arrests have been made at the time of publication.
A witness told radio station 3AW that customers were seen running from the store, screaming in terror.
Michael Hill International released a press release in relation to the incident, assuring all customers and staff at the scene had been offered support.
“Michael Hill takes the safety of its employees and customers seriously, and is our top priority. Employees of Michael Hill undergo robbery prevention and safety training to help ensure employees and customers remain safe in this type of situation,” it stated.
“We are working closely with the police during this investigation.”
This is the second consecutive month a Melbourne Michael Hill store has been targeted. In May, a thief armed with a hammer targeted the store in the Pacific Werribee shopping centre, escaping with “thousands of dollars” worth of jewellery.
A Victoria Police spokesperson declined to offer any additional details, saying the investigation was ongoing.
Investigators are urging anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
