Police alleged that the man – who is described as Caucasian, of medium build and from the seaside suburb of Manly – entered the shop in the city’s vibrant Queen Street shopping district at 4.30pm on 20 February, armed with a knife.
While he did not take any jewellery during the attack, CCTV recorded him pushing a 72-year-old male staff member to the ground before running away.
Following the release of surveillance footage and appeals to the public for information, police arrested the suspect a week later at an address in the affluent suburb of Wakerley.
He was charged with attempted armed robbery, serious assault of a person over 60 and entering premises with the intention to commit an indictable offence.
He appeared in Brisbane Magistrates Court on February 28.
