The five-star Shangri-La Hotel will host International delegates from 12 to 15 October 2019 for the Congress (ICA).
The announcement makes Thailand the first member country to host the prestigious event three times; it was previously held there in 1987 and 2005.
Seminars, panels and discussions at the Congress will cover rubies, gemstones, mining, technology, market trends, social responsibility and retailing, amongst other topics.
Activities included in the program are tennis and golf tournaments, a dinner cruise, and the Gala Ruby Night.
“As Bangkok is the world’s largest coloured stone trading and processing hub, we have an immense opportunity to create great awareness about coloured stones to a global audience,” Prida Tiasuwan, chairman, ICA Congress 2019, said.
“This Congress will have the largest representation of female speakers [compared to previous years] and will also have the first ever representation of artisanal miners on an international platform,” he added.
The ICA is the only worldwide body created to benefit the coloured gemstone industry. The non-profit organisation was founded in 1984 and counts 700 members from 47 countries, comprising the whole supply chain from mine to market, as well as museums and academia.
It aims to develop consistent promotion and business standards for the industry, as well as improve international communication and co-operation in the trade of coloured gemstones.
Registration is now open at icacongress2019.com.
