Anoop Mehta, president Bharat Diamond Bourse (BDB) and Mehul Shah, vice-president BDB, visited the Shanghai Diamond Exchange (SDE) last week to discuss the globally recognised polished diamond sales event.
“We had three full days of talks with a wide variety of members of the SDE who showed great interest in attending the Bharat Diamond Week. We were delighted with the turnout,” Mehta said in a statement.
Lin Qiang, president SDE and vice-president of the World Federation of Diamond Bourses, will be guest of honour at this year’s Bharat Diamond Week and lead the Chinese buying delegation.
Shah praised Qiang for his team’s hospitality, adding that the meeting had been a strong precursor to the Indian event, which will be held at the BDB complex in Mumbai in two months’ time. “Our aim is to increase visitor numbers at each of the Bharat Diamond Week events. With the help of our colleagues at the Shanghai Diamond Exchange, I am sure we will achieve this,” he said.
“China is a hugely important consumer market, and we are very pleased that Chinese diamond and jewellery companies will visit the Bharat Diamond Week and see how Indian diamond firms can fulfil all their sourcing requirements.”
More than 150 companies will be exhibiting at the trade show with the ‘one company, one booth’ policy ensuring businesses of all sizes will be represented.
Meanwhile, Somchai Phornchindarak, president of the Gems, Jewelry and Precious Metal Confederation of Thailand and the Thai Gem and Jewelry Traders Association, has also sent a message of support for Bharat Diamond Week, saying members of the two organisations were “looking forward” to the event.
The Diamond Week will also see delegations from Israel, Dubai, Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia and New Zealand attend, with 150 complimentary hotel rooms provided for selected foreign buyers.
Shah confirmed that registrations for the trade show had already exceeded the previous Bharat Diamond Weeks, which were held in 2018.
Registrations for Bharat Diamond Week are still open.
