Third Hong Kong jewellery show postponed

Another Hong Kong trade show, Jewellery & Gem ASIA  (JGA), has been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Fair organiser Informa Markets confirmed that the event – which was scheduled to take place from 25–28 June at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre – will now be held at the AsiaWorld-Expo from 26–29 November.

"By securing these new dates, the fair gives the jewellery community the opportunity to regather and maximise opportunities... and regroup for the coming year"

In a letter to exhibitors, Celine Lau, director of jewellery fairs at Informa Markets, offered “sincerest apologies” for the postponement, adding, “We would like to assure our exhibitors that contracts and payments made for JGA will carry over to the revised dates."

“By securing these new dates, the fair gives the jewellery community the opportunity to regather and maximise opportunities to fulfil pent-up demand, capture last-minute ‘cash-and-carry’ peak season transactions and regroup for the coming year,” she added.

Lau also announced that Informa Markets would launch a digital event to “complement the offering of our physical shows and leveraging our powerful trading platform, JewelleryNet” in the coming months.

JGA exhibitors have been invited to showcase their products and services through the digital event as well as utilise “business matching opportunities” and live webinars organised by Informa Markets’ jewellery division.

Further details of the digital event are yet to be announced.

Informa Markets’ decision to postpone the JGA and hold an interim online event follows a similar strategy implemented by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC).

The HKTDC has twice rescheduled its ‘twin’ jewellery shows – the Hong Kong International Jewellery Show and the Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show – in recent months; the events are now due to take place in August, and the HKTDC held an online showcase, the Spring Virtual Expo, throughout April for exhibitors via its HKTDC Sourcing platform.
