The latest edition to The Jewelled Range is The Jewelled Horse, following on from 2020’s The Jewelled Tiger, 2019’s The Jewelled Dragon, and 2018’s The Jewelled Phoenix.
The animals are selected for their relevance to Chinese culture, with the horse associated with vitality, nobility, and power.
Each of the eight Jewelled Horse coins weighs 283.5g (10oz) and is crafted from 99.99 per cent pure yellow gold and 18-carat rose gold, hand-set with 2.76-carats of fancy intense vivid pink and purplish-pink Argyle diamonds.
Neil Vance, general manager – minted products at The Perth Mint, told Jeweller, “From concept to market, The Perth Mint’s process entails detailed designs, lengthy consultation processes, meticulous die craftsmanship and of course the setting of each unique diamond.
“With the prestige of The Jewelled Range and the Mint’s other Argyle pink diamond collaborations, a lot of work goes into developing the final prototype to deliver excellence for discerning investors and collectors alike.”
The coins are considered legal tender, however Vance confirmed none of The Jewelled Range has been used as currency to date.
“Should the coin be used as legal tender, it has a purchasing capacity of $2,000 however would have cost $179,000 and above to acquire,” he said.
Vance told Jeweller that the majority of the interest in The Jewelled Range has come from “coin collectors and luxury product customers in Australia and Singapore. A number of items have also been sold to Europe and the US.
“To our knowledge, a full set has not been attained by just one collector,” he added.
In addition to The Jewelled Range, Glajz – a Singapore-based Argyle Pink Diamond Authorised partner and regional ambassador for the Natural Color Diamond Association (NCDIA) – and The Perth Mint also created a number of other limited-edition products including 2013’s Boab Ingot Collection and the Discovery Coin, which is valued at $2.48 million.
