Tiffany denies Oscar rumours

Tiffany & Co sparkled at this year’s Oscars with high-profile celebrities flaunting the brand, but the company has hit back at claims from the US media that one star was paid to show off its diamonds.
Co-host Anne Hathaway caused controversy at the 83rd Academy Awards for sporting a succession of diamond Tiffany pieces worth millions of dollars, which US media sources said she was paid U$750,000 ($739,625) by the brand to wear. However, Tiffany & Co representatives deny the claims.

Tiffany public relations and marketing manager Michaela Langley told Jeweller she was not aware of any payment being made to Hathaway, which was backed up by Carson Glover, director of worldwide media relations at Tiffany, speaking to US trade publication National Jeweler: “To reiterate what was shared with US Weekly, their sources are incorrect,” he said.

Hathaway wore a 94-carat diamond necklace, platinum and 5-carat diamond ring, and a pair of 10-carat diamond earrings to the Oscars. Meanwhile, Best Actress winner Natalie Portman wore Tiffany rubellite earrings with rose-cut diamonds.

Tiffany’s popular combination of diamonds and platinum was just one of the trends in evidence at this year’s red carpet event. Celebrities were also seen sporting emeralds, statement necklaces and chunky earrings – a theme that was spotted at this year’s Grammys too.
