Burleigh jeweller wins retailer of the year again

Burleigh Jewellers has taken out the Showcase Jewellers Australasian retailer of the year for a second time.

Burleigh Jewellers was awarded the accolade by buying group, Showcase Jewellers at its recent 30th anniversary gala dinner at The Ivy in Sydney.

Pandora president, Karin Adcock presented the award to Burleigh’s owner Catherine Pevy-Trewartha, and said it was rare to find a retail jewellery store like Burleigh Showcase Jewellers.

“Retail jewellers are given access to the same products and services so it is pleasing to present this award to Burleigh who deserves recognition in today’s retail market,” said Adcock in a statement.

The annual awards involve 328 Showcase member stores across Australia and New Zealand which are voted upon by industry leaders and suppliers. The criteria includes store and staff appearance, attendance at conferences, staff training and store reports by mystery shoppers.

Pevy-Trewartha commented that the last 12 months had been difficult for retailers and was highly appreciative of Showcase’s acknowledgment.

“Winning awards is not something we set out to do, but it is always wonderful to be recognised for all our hard work,” Pevy-Trewartha said.

Burleigh has revised its range over the past year, which Pevy-Trewartha believes allows it to stay successful, especially when the retail industry is struggling.

“We used this as an opportunity to let go of stock that isn’t performing and re-invest in ranges with potential,” Pevy-Trewartha said.

Pevy-Trewartha said such recognition could be helpful in forming a convincing marketing campaign and strengthening the future position of the business.

“Winning this award is a reward for all of our team and [offers us] an opportunity to use this in all our advertising and local marketing”

Looking ahead, Pevy-Trewartha acknowledges the importance of working with buying groups such as Showcase, saying “being a member really gives us an edge over competitors with their support, national advertising and branding.”

“As part of Showcase Jewellers, we receive all the tools and stock needed, so we will take advantage of that to ensure our future success,” she said.
