Julie Sandlau forms Australian subsidiary

Danish jewellery brand Julie Sandlau has decided to take over the distribution reins of its product offering and open an Australian office, following news that its former supplier for the region will be ceasing operations.
While it was confirmed last month that the brand’s local distributor, House of Brands (HOB), would end trading on 1 March, Julie Sandlau CEO Martin Glisby was keen to reassure the local industry that the brand was committed to the Australian and New Zealand market.

“We see Australia and New Zealand as such important and vibrant markets, and we have no doubt Julie Sandlau can be very successful in both countries. We are fully committed to taking the brand to a new level,” Glisby said.

Julie Sandlau Australia, a wholly owned subsidiary of its Danish parent, will be managed by Helen Hagerty who will be responsible for sales and brand management.

Both Hagerty and Glisby will represent the brand at the Gold Coast Australian Jewellery Fair in March.

Demand remains, despite closure
When news broke that former Pandora Australia president Karin Adcock was closing her business, HOB, due to “personal reasons”, she was quick to note that the decision was in no way a reflection on the individual brands – namely Julie Sandlau, byBiehl and X by Trollbeads – that she distributed or their potential in the local market.

At the time, Adcock told Jeweller: “I have been quite pleased with the take-up of the brands by retailers and I do believe there is good potential for them in this market [Australia and New Zealand].”

Julie Sandlau made its Australian debut at the Sydney Jewellery Fair in September 2012, and has since also had a distribution agreement with supplier Webber & Tonkin.

The Danish brand was established more than 10 years ago by former model and lawyer Julie Sandlau. The range includes earrings, bracelets, necklaces and rings, and has been made popular by celebrities like Beyonce, Keira Knightley, Gwyneth Paltrow and Australian born Danish Crown Princess Mary.
